Evan's Syndrome is an autoimmune blood disorder that currently has no cure.  The body creates antibodies that attack the hemoglobin, white blood cells and platelets.  Sometimes the antibodies attack only one type of cell and other times it's a couple at the same time.  Blood transfusions and a variety of medications are used  in an attempt to control this condition.  Most of these medications suppress the immune system which is an added challenge.  With a weakened immune system the body is more susceptible to infection and illness.

Nathan has been in and out of the hospital since he was 11 months old as we try to understand and control this disease.  It has been a very long and hard road but he remains strong and brave with a smile on his face every step of the way.

Hello! Meet Nathan...

From the outside, Nathan is your typical 5 year old boy.  He loves to play hockey, read books, beat Mom and Dad at Uno (or any game for that matter) and make people laugh.

Nathan lives with his little sister Audrey, his mom Erin, dad Paul and dog Riley.  He loves to visit his grandparents and cousin Sam!

Nathan also lives every day with the autoimmune disorder Evan's Syndrome.  You would never know it from looking at him but Nathan's body is busy creating antibodies that attack his own blood cells.
